How to Lower Your Risk of Lymphedema after Breast Cancer Treatment administrator 1 Views • 2 years ago

Lymphedema is common after breast cancer and melanoma cancer treatment with surgery and/or radiation. Breast cancer-related lymphedema and melanoma cancer-related lymphedema are typically caused by lymph nodes removed and radiation. But what can someone do to lower the risk and chance of getting lymphedema? In this video, I share the 3 ways, supported by research on how to lower the risk of getting lymphedema in the arm or breast/chest after cancer treatment.

Lymphedema Arm Wrapping - Instructions on Self-Bandaging for Arm Lymphedema
Lymphedema Arm Wrapping - Instructions on Self-Bandaging for Arm Lymphedema administrator 0 Views • 2 years ago

Arm Lymphedema treatment is best when including compression bandaging. In this video, I show how to complete lymphedema arm bandaging (lymphedema arm wrapping) for a swollen or thickened upper extremity. I will explain some of the supplies I use, and down below you can see where to purchase them.

** I do not have lymphedema, I am simply a lymphedema physical therapist. I genuinely understand that this is not easy to self-bandage and that I am not limited by my motion to do it independently. Many will need assistance from others for help. Per request from some of the individuals I work with each day in the clinic, this video is meant to help someone (and possibly a caregiver) follow along for set-by-step simple bandaging at home. I work with my patients to find modifications for positioning at home, as well as different styles of bandaging and padding, and I encourage everyone to work with his or her CLT to do the same.
Please also review the disclaimer in the video/description below.

Benefits of Deep Breathing and Core Exercises for Lymphedema #shorts
Benefits of Deep Breathing and Core Exercises for Lymphedema #shorts administrator 3 Views • 2 years ago

Why are Deep breathing and core exercise so important for lymphedema and a healthy lymphatic system?
Let's look at the pathways of lymphatics.
The lymphatic fluid from your legs comes up to the lymph nodes in the groin region. This fluid moves into deep channels and vessels in the abdomen and then makes its way up to a collecting duct by your collarbone, called the thoracic duct, before draining through valves back to the heart.
The lymphatic fluid from your left arm also drains into this duct, while the right arm drains into a separate duct called the right lymphatic duct. But then both connect to vessels to drain back to the heart.
If the area in the abdomen gets congested, then the legs and arms won't be able to move fluid through and there may be even more pooling in the legs or arms.
Deep breathing and muscle activation can help stimulate the lymphatic system and keep everything moving!

Right Arm Lymphedema Massage: Full Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage By a Lymphedema Therapist

Lymphatic drainage massage, or lymphedema massage, is an important part of managing lymphedema and swelling. Follow along for a FULL manual lymphatic drainage massage (MLD) routine. I describe the techniques and sequence used by a certified lymphedema therapist, as well as address fibrosis. I also discuss and review differences of sequencing for those with lymphedema in the right arm and chest wall.
I used a second view to see another angle of the lymphatic drainage technique and sequencing.
