My MEN1 Diaries: Blood Test Results And MRI

I was diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1) in September 2018 and am still in the process of medical screening.

This genetic condition is a mutation of the tumour suppressing gene found on chromosome 11. Like a spelling mistake in a manual. It makes the carrier more susceptible to neuroendocrine tumours and some can become cancerous.

Tumours primarily develop in the parathyroid, pituitary gland and the pancreas - or the 3ps.

Tumours can also develop in the thyroid, thymus, lungs and adrenal glands. Lipomas around the body can also develop.

Because the gene affects the endocrine system, hormones can go haywire and conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes and acid reflux are common, as well as issues with digestion .

In this video, I provide the results of my first blood tests and my experience having an MRI.

MEN1 is quite rare and I have to travel to a major London hospital for tests and treatment.

I will continue to document my experiences and results.
