Liver is the only organ of the body which can grow back. If you take out 70% of the liver,the remaining 30% is enough for the liver functions and it will grow back within 2 months. Success rate for liver transplantation is 90 to 95% depending upon how sick is the patient. 90% at one year, 79% at 3 year, 70% at 5 year. Surgical treatment is best option for treating. Surgical resection is possible in patients with normal liver, portal hypertension and with out cirrhosis. So the patients who cannot have liver resection need liver transplantation.
