In February of 2014, when Asa Barreras was only 7 months old, he was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) after his parents found a giant mass in his abdomen. Soon after diagnosis, Asa’s treatment plan was drafted – which included the incredibly advanced approach of trans arterial chemoembolization, one rarely used in children. As a result, the infected section of Asa’s liver died and any signs of the disease were gone. The youngest of eleven children, Asa’s name means healer. How fitting, as he is now a happy and healthy two-year-old.
