Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that develops in the glands that line your organs. In this video, Dr. Praveen Kammar (Consultant Surgical Oncologist, SSO Hospital, Mumbai) will talk us through adenocarcinoma - one of the stomach cancer.

Most cancers of the stomach i.e., 90 to 95% are adenocarcinomas. If you have been told that you have stomach cancer it is most likely that you have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. Stomach cancer can prove to be very dangerous as the patient does not show any symptoms in its early stages. If you have adenocarcinoma the only way to diagnose it is an annual screening endoscopy.

Adenocarcinoma expands from the gland cells in the innermost lining of the stomach also known as mucosa. Other than endoscopy doctors advise patients to undergo a few tests to get a concrete idea of the current stage of cancer such as CT scan, PET Scan, Staging Laparoscopy.
