When Richard Coy was diagnosed with thymoma, a rare type of cancer that affects the thymus gland, he decided to seek treatment at The University of MD Anderson Cancer Center. Thanks to the thymoma treatment he received at MD Anderson, he was declared cancer-free. Coy says his thymoma journey changed his outlook on life.
“After you find out you have cancer, you appreciate every day,” he says. “That’s the gift that cancer gave me.”

Thymoma is a tumour, which arises in the thymus gland. This gland is situated behind the breast bone just in front of the heart. The way to confirm diagnosis is C.T Scan which not only tells the size but also the stage of the disease.
Richard Coy and his family were overwhelmed after receiving his thymoma diagnosis. Initially, being diagnosed with a rare cancer felt isolating. But during his thymoma treatment, he found support from other patients at The University of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
