Hospital Indemnity Plans - Cancer Policies: What are They and Why Do I Need Them?
Hospital Indemnity Plans - Cancer Policies: What are They and Why Do I Need Them? administrator 0 Views • 2 years ago

Compare Medicare Supplement Quotes: https://www.seniorhealthcaredirect.com/quote-3/

What are Hospital Indemnity Plans and Cancer Policies and why do I need them? A very good question. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan and are unable to purchase a Medicare Supplement because of health issues or maybe it’s not the time of year you are able to switch, there are a couple, separate plans that you can purchase that will help offset the costs you have with a Medicare Advantage Plan and your exposure with a Medicare Advantage Plan. The two most popular are the Hospital Indemnity Plan and a Cancer Policy. The two biggest holes in a Medicare Advantage Plan are hospitalization and Cancer treatments.
Most Medicare Advantage Plans are going to charge you anywhere from $250 to $400 a day you’re in the hospital for each day, days 1 though 7. A Hospital Indemnity Plan will protect you from this charge. How it works is if you are hospitalized, you would pay the co-pay to the hospital that your Medicare Advantage Plan requires you to pay. After that, you would submit a claim to the insurance carrier and the Hospital Indemnity Plan would then pay you per day that you were in the hospital. For example: If the co-pay for hospitalization is $250 per day; you’re in the hospital and you had a Hospital Indemnity Plan, it would pay you that $250 or $300 a day depending on the plan that you choose.
Two reasons that Cancer is one of the biggest holes in a Medicare Advantage Plan is first, that most Medicare Advantage Plans are going to require you to pay the 20% for chemotherapy or any other treatments you may need. The second is the Medicare Part D drug costs within the Medicare Advantage Plan.
Cancer Policies are fairly affordable plans (premiums around $30 a month). They are very similar to the Hospital Indemnity Plan in that if you have a Cancer Policy and are diagnosed with Cancer, the insurance carrier will send you a lump sum amount to use towards your treatment. For example: If you have a Cancer Policy that provides a $10,000 benefit with your Medicare Advantage Plan and you are diagnosed with Cancer, you would file a claim with the insurance carrier and the carrier would send you a check for a lump sum of $10,000 to use towards any service or medications.

Medicare and Chemotherapy - Cancer and Medicare Coverage - Does Medicare Cover Cancer Treatments?

Medicare and Chemotherapy - Cancer and Medicare Coverage - Does Medicare Cover Cancer Treatments?

Medicare does cover chemotherapy, however with Medicare alone you are required to pay 20% of that cost because Medicare only covers 80% as long as the treatments and medications are administered by a medical professional. If you have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) with your Medicare, chemotherapy will be completely covered depending on the type of plan you have, for example, if you have the Medicare Supplement Plan G your treatments would be completely covered after you met Medicare's Part B annual deductible ($185 for 2019). There are ten different Medicare Supplements and there coverage is all different and it is posted on Medicare's website.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, the coverage will vary based on what your plan covers and how much it covers. Each Medicare Advantage plan's coverage differs based on the area it's in.

HMO vs PPO Insurance for Prostate Cancer
HMO vs PPO Insurance for Prostate Cancer administrator 0 Views • 2 years ago

PCRI's Executive Director, Mark Scholz, MD, explains the differences between HMO, PPO, and Medicare, especially as it relates to receiving care for prostate cancer.

:19 There are three different types of medical insurances: Prepaid/HMO, Private/PPO, and Medicare, which functions like private insurance.

:30 HMO insurances are insurance companies that employ physicians. It is a good economical choice for common health problems; however, for rarer medical issues, like cancer, HMO's tend to be pretty bad since they are principally concerned with cutting costs.

1:15 Those with PPO insurances have more freedom choosing their doctors, treatments for rare conditions are better funded, and there is generally better access to quality care.

1:26 Medicare functions like a PPO, although some people choose to sign over their medicare for an HMO type system. This results in benefits like better drug prices, but it also places restrictions on which doctors you can see and what treatments you can undergo. More expensive cancer treatments may require pre-authorization. With medicare, like a PPO, doctors, and patients both have more discretion.

1:58 Most men with prostate cancer are over 65 and thus have access to medicare. It's important for them to carefully consider the risks and benefits of switching to the HMO style system since it means giving up the freedom to choose their doctors and treatments.
