What are ostomy bags used for?
Ostomy bags, also known as ostomy pouch or stoma bag, are designed to collect bodily waste from a stoma. The choice of ostomy bag will probably depend on whether you have an ileostomy or colostomy stoma and how many times you want to change the ostomy pouch - watch to see how ostomy bags work and the ileostomy or colostomy bag types from suppliers.

1 piece or 2 piece ostomy bags?
A one-piece ostomy bag is simple. You apply the pouch around the stoma by sticking it to your skin and change the whole stoma bag for a new one - no emptying. If you prefer not to change bag each time, then drainable pouches are available, although sometimes leakage can't be prevented and regular changing is suggested.

A two-piece stoma bag has an adhesive flange / baseplate [piece 1] that is applied around the stoma, to be more permanent, and the pouch [piece 2] clips on to form the ostomy bag. The baseplate is recommended changing every 2-3 days and the individual ostomy pouch can be changed or emptied whenever you prefer.
