Avitus® Debridement of Desmoid Fibroma of Calcaneus with Bone & Marrow Distal Tibia Harvest

Michael Theodoulou DPM, FACFAS (Division Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Cambridge Health Alliance and Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School) presents a unique case study that was recently published in the FASTRAC, an official publication of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

In this presentation, he describes the utilization of the Avitus® Bone Harvester for evacuating the fibroma from the calcaneus and backfilling it with distal tibia bone graft and marrow. The goal of the procedure was to prevent knee amputation and a calacanectomy. The curettaged contents were submitted to pathology where neoplastic cells were arranged and determined to be desmoplastic fibroma.

At 16 months post-op, the patient reported doing well with no recurrence of symptoms.
