Ask The Doctor: Can I take both Ibuprofen and CBD Oil?
Hi, everyone. Our next question in this series of drug interaction questions has to do with ibuprofen and CBD oil. Can I take both?
Well, the answer is yes, you can take both. And I appreciate this question because a lot of people are taking ibuprofen and similar agents for pain or inflammation or both. ibuprofen is one of a group called non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and there's lots of them out there.
Voltaren Celebrex, Tramadol relevant, and these non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, abbreviated SSRIs, can be helpful for pain and inflammation. Unfortunately, they are also prone to causing side effects, especially in chronic users. And this includes problems with kidney function, gastric erosion and ulcers.
So, if you are interested in using cannabis, especially CBD to reduce pain and inflammation, I support you. And if you are taking nonsteroidals like ibuprofen, hopefully you can reduce the insides and replace it with something safer, like CBD.
So in general, you can take the two together. They both work as anti inflammatories and pain relievers, but they do it through different mechanisms. And overall, I have found that CBD and other cannabis products that reduce pain and inflammation are much safer than the end says, especially in patients who have compromised renal function, or problems with stomach upset.
