When Barb Demorest learned she had breast cancer, she had no idea that her diagnosis would change her life -- and thousands more. After her mastectomy, being given a free knit breast prosthetic didn’t just rekindle her hope for the future. As the founder of KnittedKnockers.org, a huge network of volunteers dedicated to knitting free prostheses for breast cancer survivors, she believes that cancer doesn’t have to rob women of their femininity.

In this video I'm sharing the things that have changed since my four month update and mainly having to do with breast prosthetics. I have a lot of things to say about my two favorite prosthetics before I give them up as I'm having another mastectomy later this month!

Are you considering using prosthetic nipples after your mastectomy? Do you have questions about how they work? You can't know this stuff unless you ask, and Michelle Kolath-Arbel is the woman you should be talking to. While Michelle was going through breast cancer treatment she realized her prosthetic options weren't very good. It seemed no one was making a realistic prosthetic nipple, so she decided to do it. She established Perfect Pink, which specializes in prosthetic nipples. In this video she describes how prosthetic nipples stay on.

Looking back at my mastectomy now, I have a lot of clarity, but a month before my surgery I had no idea what I would wish for today. I'm sharing this super personal and unexpected part of story so that others can have one more surprising perspective on what they're future self might possibly want. Disclaimers: My story is highly influenced by not wanting implants, having large breasts to begin with, and not having a lot of emotional attachment or image attachment to my breasts. (Remember to consult with your doctor about risk factors before making ANY decisions about mastectomy!)
