Zehra saw swelling in her mouth. It was a parotid gland swelling. She applied to Prof.Cetin Vural who has extensive experience in parathyroid diseases and ENT tumors. After the examination, Prof.Vural diagnosed her parotid gland tumor and planned Zehra parotid gland swelling treatment.
How can we understand parotid gland tumor symptoms?
• A lump or swelling on or near your jaw or in your neck or mouth
• Feeling numbness and muscle weakness on your face
• Mild but persistent pain
• Also difficulty swallowing and problem opening your mouth widely may be parotid gland tumor symptoms
What's the parotid gland swelling treatment?
Treatment for Parotid gland swelling tumors is usually with surgery to remove the tumor. It is called parotidectomy surgery. Prof.Vural applied to this surgery for Zehra's parotid gland swelling treatment too. Sometimes patients may need additional treatments, such as with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. But It was not needed for Zehra’s treatment. Prof.Cetin Vural just removed the tumor from a small incision in front of the ear.
What is the parotid gland swelling cause?
Parotid gland swelling causes aren't clear. Sometimes cells grow and divide rapidly. These cells may not be healthy. At last, accumulating cells form a tumor.

People experiencing swelling in the face and neck after eating may not realize they have a salivary gland disorder – and that it can be treated in a minimally invasive manner. When these glands become obstructed, either from salivary gland stones or from strictures, blockage occurs resulting in a swelling under the jaw or in front of the ear.
At Mount Sinai’s Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, we treat these disorders using a minimally invasive technique called sialendoscopy.
In addition to salivary gland stones and strictures (scarring to the duct), other forms of salivary diseases that can be treated with sialendoscopy are:
· Chronic salivary gland infections
· Parotid swelling from the radioactive treatment of thyroid cancer
· Juvenile recurrent parotitis in children
Our physicians have performed thousands of these complex procedures.
