Early detection and diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma is critical in children and can save lives. The focus of this presentation is the clinical presentation of leukemia and lymphoma, diagnosis, and prognosis.

Kara Kelly, MD, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY, speaks on the survival gap between adult and pediatric cases of Hodgkin lymphoma which is driven by a host of factors, including differences in gene expression, as well as social determinants of health. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.

The largest clinical study to evaluate breast cancer screening of female survivors of childhood Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), who are at increased risk because they received chest radiation, shows that MRI detected invasive breast cancer tumours at very early stages.

In collaboration with Childhood Cancer International and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, UICC has spearheaded a campaign targeted at primary and community healthcare workers to raise awareness of early ‘Signs and Symptoms’ of childhood cancer. As part of this campaign is a series of expert films narrated by doctors, a nurse, a cancer survivor and a parent to help improve early diagnosis of cancer, particularly in low-income countries where need is greatest.
