In this video, Dr. Amit Chakraborty (Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Head & Neck Cancer Specialist, SSO Hospital) will inform us whether doing surgery is helpful in stage 4 head & neck cancer.

The 4th stage of head and neck cancer is divided into 3 stages –
Stage 4A
Stage 4B
Stage 4C

Till stage 4B the head and cancer can be removed with the help of an operation. In stage 4C the cancer is already spread to major areas of the body where it is not possible to remove cancer using an operation. Doctors advise these patients to undergo chemotherapy or immunotherapy as per the affordability of the patient.

The patients treated in the 4th stage need to have regular follow-ups every 3 months as it is possible that cancer may recur. After 5 years the possibility of recurrence of cancer is only 5%. Only after 5 years, the patient is cancer-free.

Therefore, it is possible to cure cancer even if it is in the 4th stage if it is treated early.
