What is peripheral T-cell lymphoma?

Dr Carrie Van Der Weyden, Consultant Haematologist & Research, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is the name given to a group of lymphomas that accounts for around 10% of lymphoma cases and develop from mature-stage T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells. “Peripheral” does not refer to extremities, but as a cancer that arises in the lymphoid tissue outside of the bone marrow such as lymph nodes, spleen, gastrointestinal tract, and skin. PTCL affects both men and women and can also affect people in childhood and young people.

Dr Van Der Weyden discusses the treatment management of this patient group and factors to consider when treating patients with PTCL.
