What Does Early Stage Bone Cancer Feel Like?
Bone pain is the most common warning sign of bone cancer. You may experience a dull or deep ache in a bone or area like the back, pelvis, legs, ribs, OR arms.
This discomfort may occur only at night in the early stages. As time goes by, the pain may become more persistent.
There are several types of bone cancer. The type of cancer you have will depend on which combination of the following symptoms you are experiencing.
* Pain you can feel in the bone itself. This is the most common early warning sign, and it usually gets worse as a tumor gets bigger.
* Increasing pain, swelling, or tenderness near the affected area
* Bone injury or fracture for no clear reason.
* Unusually frequent fatigue.
* Unintended weight loss.
* Weakness, numbness or incontinence if the tumor is pressing on the spinal cord.
* A mass you can feel.
* Fever with no known cause.
Bone cancer can begin in any bone in the body, but it most commonly affects the pelvis or the long bones in the arms and legs.
A primary bone tumor, known as a sarcoma, begins in a bone itself. Bone cancer can also occur when cancer spreads from another part of the body.
Bone cancer is relatively rare, making up less than one percent of all cancer casess. In fact, noncancerous bone tumors are much more common than cancerous ones.
