The Insidious Symptoms of Myelodysplastic or Myeloproliferative Syndromes
Jennifer Elliott, PhD, Global Project Leader at Takeda Oncology discussed the symptoms commonly associated with myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative syndromes. Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative syndromes, as defined by the NIH, are a group of diseases of the blood and bone marrow in which the bone marrow makes too many white blood cells.
As Dr. Elliott mentions, the symptoms of myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative syndromes tend to be insidious, which makes getting a quick diagnosis difficult. This is especially true given that myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative syndromes tend to affect older adults, whose complaints of these symptoms may be brushed off as signs of normative aging.
