I'm doing this video on signs of pancreatic cancer because I learned a lot about them when a friend was recently diagnosed. I decided to share some of the information I learned with others who are in the same situation my friend and I faced when he had it. In addition to personal insights I gained along the way, I did a lot of research using credible websites like these.
Pancreatic cancer signs often don't appear until the disease has reached an advanced stage. This makes early diagnosis difficult because there are no specific, cost-effective screening tests to detect it early. Unfortunately, many patients don't know they have it until the cancer has metasticized (spread to other parts of the body) and it's too late to remove with surgery.
When signs of pancreatic cancer DO appear, a patient would notice:
* Upper abdominal pain. This pain sometimes radiates to the back
* Jaundice, which is yellowing of the skin and the whites of your eyes
* Reduced appetite
* Noticeable, unexpected weight loss
* Depression
Patients with pancreatic cancer also often develop blood clots.
Chronic pancreatitis, which is prolonged inflammation of the pancreas, is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Anyone with chronic pancreatitis should be especially vigilant for the signs and symptoms I've mentioned.
