Role of Radiation on the Road to Cancer Treatment | KRISTAPS PAĻSKIS | TEDxRigaTechnicalUniversity
Unveiling the Curative Potential of the Feared: Radiation's Dance with Technology and Medicine. In societal perception, the word "radiation" seldom elicits positive connotations. However, tracing back to Wilhelm Rontgen's groundbreaking discovery of X-rays, we witness the swift integration of radiation into the realm of medicine. But what lies on the horizon of our current understanding? How far have we come in harnessing radiation's therapeutic potential? And most significantly, what groundbreaking advancements await us in radiation's application in medical treatments? Join us on a captivating journey as we explore the intricate interplay between technology, medicine, and radiation, delving into the transformative possibilities that lie ahead. Kristaps Paļskis holds a master’s degree in medical physics with work experience in a clinical environment – radiation therapy for cancer treatment. He is currently a PhD student in accelerator technologies, working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, to develop next-generation radiation therapy technologies for more effective patient treatment. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
