Jim's head, nose, hands and feet swelled because of acromegaly, a condition in which the body produces too much growth hormone and thereby causes tissues to enlarge. The culprit was a benign tumor on the pituitary gland. He came back down to size after a transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection at the UC Brain Tumor Center at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
