The painful armpit lump can be from any of the organs from that area. So most commonly it could be a lymph node swelling, which is deep inside, if the lymph nodes are very deep and it can be a superficial breast tissue there. We call it as an accessory breast tissue. That can also become very painful. Thirdly we can get a alt of skin lesions in the armpit like hidradenitis suppurativa. So if you go back to the causes, the lymph node swelling in the arm can be because of any infected lymph nodes. Infection in tee breast can cause lymph nodes in the axilla or it can be any infective reasons that can enlarge the lymph nodes in the arm and then the accessory breast can get inflamed or can develop fibrocystic disease of the breast and it can become painful and access with hidradenitis suppurativa or infection of the glands in the skin can make it very painful . Armpit pain can also be because of shoulder pain. So we should know whether it is related to shoulder joint itself, it can cause pain the investigation is most important and diagnosis is very important if it is an armpit lump. So we might ask for either a surface scan or a deep ultrasound scan and scan in the breast also to check any primary lesion in the breast that is causing lump and pain in the axilla. So this is going to diagnose. So based on the diagnosis, treatment is going to be planned.
