Novel approaches in treating Merkel cell carcinoma

Whilst surgery was previously used to treat advanced Merkel cell carcinoma, systemic therapy is currently the standard of care. Sungjune Kim, MD, PhD, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL comments on emerging strategies to improve outcomes in patients with Merkel cell carcinoma. Adjuvant radiotherapy and PD-1 inhibitors in the adjuvant or neoadjuvant setting are promising strategies for this group of patients.
