After serving as full time faculty for twenty years at The George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC; Matthew L. Mintz, MD, left academics in July, 2017 to start a private Internal Medicine and Primary Care practice in Bethesda, MD. During his tenure at GW, Dr. Mintz directed numerous courses including GW’s Primary Care Clerkship GW’s clinical skills course, both for over a decade. In the fall of 2013, Dr. Mintz was directed by the Dean to take charge of GW’s 4 year curricular revision, serving as Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical Education. Dr. Mintz has won numerous teaching awards including the GW School of Medicine’s Distinguished Teacher Award and the American College of Physicians- DC Chapter’s Sol Katz Teaching Award. Dr. Mintz was also clinically active at GW, serving as director of and seeing patient in GW’s Premier Access Program. Dr. Mintz has been consistently named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Docs since 2012.
Dr. Mintz is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and has been a principal investigator for several research projects related to asthma, diabetes and smoking cessation, as well as several studies regarding medical student education. Dr. Mintz has published in peer reviewed journals on topics including asthma, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and medical education. He is author of the book “Disorders of the Respiratory Tract: Common Challenges in Primary Care” published by Human Press, Inc.
Dr. Mintz is currently a solo practitioner in Bethesda, Maryland. In addition to concierge services he offers to his patients, he one of the few physicians who certifies patients in both the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia for medical cannabis as part of his regular practice. Dr. Mintz is an expert in CBD and medical cannabis, and is author of the book, “Medical Marijuana and CBD: A Physician’s Guide for Patients.”
Dr. Mintz received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago and a medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine and was chief medical resident. He received a Master Teacher’s certificate from the George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development.
