I understand that your father has been diagnosed with Cancer which cannot be treated further or has been diagnosed very late and doctor has told that nothing further can be done about the treatment and has asked him to be taken home. I understand that he is in lot of pain, yes definitely we can help with the pain. We have to look into what is causing the pain, it could be the cancer, it could be a tumour which is pressing on a nerve or it can be a tumour from the bone which is causing distress. It could have spread to other parts of body which is causing pain. It could also be the emotional pain, the psychological pain which is aggravating the pain. There is another dimension to the pain which is the spiritual pain. Many a times when the person is suffering from long term illness like cancer the question is why I am I having this pain? This can be taken care of by taking care of his physical pain, the psychological pain, spiritual pain and financial pain . The pain can be controlled by a Palliative specialists , we have different steps in which pain is controlled, we start with first line of painkillers like paracetamol or Ibuprofen and then we move to the next steps if this does not work like something called the weak opioids, and from the weak opiods to stronger opiods like Morphine. This improves the quality of life of someone who has longterm illness.
