Laparoscopic Removal of Uterus or Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with Removal of Fallopian tubes & Ov
Hysterectomy or removal of the uterus is needed when the uterus is diseased with cancer, or very large tumors or adenomyosis or if the uterus has come down so far that it starts to come out of the vagina.
Removal of the uterus should ideally be done laparoscopically as it gives a better view and more precision. The time taken by the patient to recover is minimal. The patient is usually up and about in 24 hours and can leave the hospital in 2 days. There is no bed rest required at home and she can continue doing her normal activities.
If the woman is less than 48 years of age, we usually leave behind the ovaries so that she does not have to go through sudden hormonal disturbances and menopausal symptoms. Above that age, since menopause is anyways round the corner, we usually tend to remove the ovaries and both fallopian tubes as well.
In this video, I have not edited the contents at all. I have just increased the speed to 4x. This was done to show you from the beginning to the end how we perform the surgery without any edits. It took me all of 40 mins to complete the surgery.
