위암 막으려면 “싱겁게 먹고, 개인접시 써라”+ ‘당•나트륨 줄이기’…학교급식 확 바뀐다

Korean dishes, especially the soups, are known to contain considerably more salt than the daily amount recommended by the World Health Organization.
The Korean Cancer Association is advising people that taking in less salt is an important preventative measure against stomach cancer.
Kim Hyo-sun reports. Experts suggest eating less salt as the most effective way to prevent stomach cancer.
Marking the Cancer Prevention Day on March 17th,... the Korean Cancer Association stressed that a diet high in sodium can increase the risk of stomach cancer by 4-and-a-half times.
This,... the association says, is most important for Koreans, whose daily intake of sodium in 2015 was 3,871 milligrams,... twice the amount recommended by the World Health Organization.
In addition to a healthy diet including fresh vegetables and fruits,... Koreans are also advised to take individual servings of soup instead of sharing a big bowl... to reduce the risk of stomach cancer, which is the nation's second-most common type.
Schools have recently been making efforts to provide a healthier diet for students by lowering the amount of sodium and sugar in their meals.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said it will invite more parents to participate in monitoring the quality of the city's school lunches.
