How Does a High DCIS Score Result Impact Treatment Recommendations?

The Oncotype DX test is a diagnostic test developed to help breast cancer patients who have been recently diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). What does it mean if you have a high DCIS score from the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

First, you should know that for a DCIS Recurrence score to be considered high, it must be greater than 31.

If you have a high score, the cancer has a high risk of recurrence and the benefits of chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer or radiation therapy for DCIS are likely to be greater than the risks.

In the video below, Surgical Oncologist mentions that although the score was not intended to predict benefit from mastectomy, there are some women who make decisions about whether or not she wants a mastectomy based on the score.

Find out how exactly a high DCIS Score can impact your treatment recommendations.
