Young adult patients (ages 18 - early 40s) can face different challenges than patients diagnosed as a child or later in adulthood. Cancer and related treatment may result in disruptions that can affect a young person’s education, early career development, family planning, or parenting of young children. These disruptions, in addition to the stressors of a diagnosis, create unique emotional and psychological needs. Dana-Farber’s Young Adult Program (YAP) has developed a smartphone app - "iaya" - to address the unique emotional and social needs of young adults affected by a cancer diagnosis. Check out this tutorial to see what iaya has to offer. The smartphone app is currently only available to young adult patients treated in adult medical oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.
