General:
Pineal region or suprasellar region mass derived from primordial germ cells
2/3 germinomas
1/3 nongerminomatous (teratoma, endodermal sinus, embryonal cell, choriocarcinoma)
Demographics:
Pineal region germinoma:
Almost exclusively in males
Peak age 10-12 years
Nongerminatous germ cell tumors:
More common in neonates, younger children
Teratoma:
Most common congenital intracranial tumor
Equal prevalence in males and females
Clinical:
Hydrocephalus
Pineal region location: Parinaud syndrome (paralysis of upward gaze and altered convergence)
Suprasellar location: may present with diabetes insipidus
