Agustin is from Uruguay and was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called Ependymoma when he was eight years old. His prognosis wasn't good. After undergoing multiple surgeries and exhausting multiple treatments options all over South America, doctors told the family there was nothing else that could be done. Agustin's parents searched the world for more options for their son - it seemed no one would take his case. Finally, Agustin's parents made contact with Dr. Diana Osorio at Nationwide Children's. She and the rest of the Neuro-Oncology team took on Agustin's case full-heartedly and in December of 2014, the family arrived in Columbus Ohio. The family has been here for one year now and in that time, Agustin has had two surgeries and is on an aggressive yet specialized treatment plan - a truly one-of-a-kind approach that has provided Agustin with a quality of life his parents were told back in Uruguay that he'd never have. It's hard to say when Agustin will return to Uruguay as he is still battling his cancer. Yet although they are far from home, Agustin's family is enjoying the time they have together.
