During a critical shortage of BCG, the drug most often used to treat early-stage bladder cancer, the Bladder Cancer Program in the Department of Urology at the University of Iowa has pioneered multiple novel therapies that have proved to be more effective than BCG, with fewer side effects. This means that for the first time since the 1970s, bladder cancer patients have a better chance of having their bladders saved and of beating their cancer.
