Brain Cancer Symptoms, Treatments & Research
It’s National Brain Cancer Awareness Month, and this week on Toward a Cancer-Free World, Ohio State brain cancer expert Dr. James Elder discusses symptoms, treatments and promising new research.
While symptoms can vary from intense headaches, seizures, speech problems, or weakness in the limbs, not all patients experience the same things, and some symptoms can indicate another illness, such as stroke. When brain cancer is diagnosed, treatment can include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Additionally, clinical trials at The James show tremendous promise, such as using DNA to deliver cancer-killing viruses directly to the cells, and developing vaccines to harness the body’s own immune system, which then pinpoints the cancer cells’ location and attacks them.
