Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) is a rare form of Cancer of major and minor salivary glands. This form of cancer can occur in the oral cavity, breast, lungs etc.It presents as a slow growing tumor over the years ,symptoms can vary depending upon the location of tumor. The treatment for this kind of cancer is Surgery, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy.
Survival rates are 40% if the tumor recurres.The tumor once removed can recur after 12 -15 years .
ACC can be a solid, cribriform or tubular variety. The tumor spreads along the nerves ,which decreases the survival. Solid pattern of tumor has worst prognosis.Large tumors can spread to liver ,brain or lungs decreasing the chances of survival.This was a case of ACC which recurrence after 12 years.
