A 64 year old gentleman from Zimbabwe was diagnosed to have stage 4 left parotid gland cancer in his own country. He came to Jaypee Hospital, Noida for his treatment.

After discussion in Tumor Board, the case was taken up for a tumor removal surgery. Dr. Ashish Goel, Director - Department of Surgical Oncology did the challenging surgery successfully to remove the tumor in which the local nerves were also involved.

Post-operative analysis of the tumor shown that it was a high grade Stage 4 cancer. He was started with radiation therapy with concurrent chemotherapy to minimize the chance of relapse. Dr. Abhishek Gulia, Associate Director - Department of Radiation Oncology planned the radiation by VMAT technique. The target volume delineation was done after fusion of the initial PETCT, MRI scans and in consultation with the surgeon to cover all the potential sites of recurrence, while avoiding radiation to normal tissues.

The patient completed his treatment with minimal side effects. He is advised to be on 3 monthly follow up visits for the next two years.
