A multiple myeloma patient story - a discussion between Vivien de Gunzburg and Paul Richardson
Vivien de Gunzburg, Founder of the de Gunzburg Myeloma Research Foundation (DGRMF), discusses his patient story with Paul Richardson, MD of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA. This video is part of a series of videos on Vivien de Gunzburg's patient story and work in the field of multiple myeloma (MM). He describes how he was first diagnosed with MM, his treatment, how his myeloma progressed and how it relapsed. Dr Richardson explains his treatment, which involved radiation, zoledronic acid, which also has immunooncological properties apart from being a bone strengthener, and bortezomib. After the third relapse, he received chemotherapy and lenalidomide, bortezomib and dexamethasone (RVD) and then a stem cell transplant that he had collected himself. Dr Richardson explains the timing of transplant and RVD and de Gunzburg also highlights that he decided to have a child before receiving revlimid (lenalidomide). He wanted to collect the cord blood stem cells but it was not allowed in France. He describes how he tried to change the law in France for everyone in order to make it possible to collect these stem cells.
