In this video, (Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Head & Neck Cancer Specialist, SSO Hospital) will inform us whether radiation therapy is compulsory in every head & neck cancer treatment.
Doctors decide whether the patient needs to be given radiation therapy on the basis of a Histopath report. Unfortunately, most head and neck cancer patients come in the later stage of the cancer. If the cancer is detected in the early stage, then radiation therapy can be avoided.
Radiation therapy is mandatory in the 2, 3, and 4th stages of cancer. The rate of survival is high among the patients who undergo radiation after surgery.
The radiation therapy should start within 4 to 5 weeks of operation. This therapy lasts for 6 weeks.
Patients should complete the radiation treatment which limits the possibility of cancer recurrence to a great extent.
