A UVA Health System physician has a new way to treat bile duct cancer.

Ghassan Abou-Alfa, MD, MBA, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses developments in treating cholangiocarcinoma with immunotherapy. Findings from the Phase III TOPAZ-1 trial (NCT03875235) of durvalumab in combination with gemcitabine plus cisplatin have demonstrated enhanced survival rates in patients with advanced biliary tract cancer. Consequently, existing targeted therapies such as pemigatinib and ivosidenib have moved to the second line setting and infigratinib has been discontinued as a therapy.
