EMERGENCY cancer surgery | Colostomy bag at 29!?
Malin & Tom

The unexpected happened. Malin was taken in for an emergency operation due to major problems caused by her colorectal cancer.

For around a week, Malin was in extreme pain and discomfort due to issues caused by her aggressive colon cancer, her large intestine essentially stopped working and she began to experience severe bloating. After some scans, they determined the issue - her colorectal cancer had caused her large intestine to become twisted and blocked, and they decided that they needed to take her in to the hospital and operate on her.

So she was taken to a different hospital in an ambulance, where they investigated the colon tumour as well as the intestinal blockage, and shortly after she was having emergency cancer surgery.

Malin was diagnosed with aggressive colorectal cancer in October 2022, and has since been fighting the long battle towards kicking the cancer out of her body. She has had a full cycle of radiation therapy, 4 rounds of chemotherapy, and she has a major operation scheduled to remove the tumour causing her colon cancer. But this surgery was far from scheduled.

PERMANENT colostomy at 29!? BIG colorectal cancer operation coming

PERMANENT colostomy at 29!? HUGE colorectal cancer operation coming
Malin & Tom

Malin's made a huge decision to keep her colostomy bag. Choosing to have a permanent colostomy at such a young age was a huge decision for her, but after careful consideration she's decided that it's the best choice. She was given a temporary colostomy after being taken in for an emergency cancer surgery a couple of weeks ago, to fix an urgent issue with a blockage in her large intestine caused by the remnants of a colorectal cancer tumour.

After meeting with a head surgeon, she has considered how her quality of life will be different with a permanent colostomy bag, and decided that it's by far the best decision, rather than them attempting to reconnect her colon.

Malin was diagnosed with an aggressive colorectal cancer at just age 29, and has since been on a long journey to getting rid of it. She has had a full cycle of radiation therapy, as well as 4 rounds of chemotherapy, and next week she is scheduled for a huge cancer operation to remove what's left of the tumour. They are also removing Malin's uterus, fallopian tubes, and other bits around where the tumour has been.

An Ostomy Saved My Life - Jen, Stage IIIa Colon Cancer Survivor
An Ostomy Saved My Life - Jen, Stage IIIa Colon Cancer Survivor administrator 1 Views • 2 years ago

It’s common not to want an ostomy at first — just ask Kristi. But she will also be the first to tell you how happy she is now living cancer-free with one.

Ostomies are life-savers:
http://ccalliance.org/ostomy

An ostomy is a surgically created opening in your abdomen that allows waste or urine to leave your body from that stoma instead of your rectum and anus. Think of your ostomy’s function as you did your natural bowel movements. You still have the same bowel; it just might be redirected. Call our free Helpline with any more questions: (877) 422-2030
