Is The Chemo Working? + What’s Next (Ovarian Cancer Stage 3 / 4) administrator 3 Views • 2 years ago

It was a bittersweet visit to the Mayo Clinic this last week as we got some encouraging news, but also learned more about the cancer and what is possibly in store for my future.

While we were up there, I had scans to see how the chemotherapy is working after my first three rounds of paclitaxel & carboplatin. I had a CT scan of my abdomen, chest & pelvis as well as an MRI of my abdomen to get a closer look at my liver.

After my liver biopsy back in July turned out to be pretty inconclusive, we are still trying to confirm if the cancer has in fact metastasized to my liver, lymph nodes and possibly my right ovary. This would put me in Stage 4 instead of Stage 3.

There are still a lot of unknowns, but we have a great team at Mayo Clinic working with us to get answers that could prove critical to figuring out the next steps of my care. For today’s video, we took you along as I went through my appointments and got the results back.

Have you ever waited for a return phone call from your doctor's office giving you the results of a scan or a test? What is going through your mind? Are you worried? Are you fearful? Are you concerned? You may even start trying to talk yourself out of it and being logical about it, and saying that I'm sure everything is fine. And I'm sure he would have called by now or he would have asked me to come into his office if something was wrong.

But no matter what we tried to do, it seems like that fear is there just nattering away at our heads, and our thoughts and what's all we seem to hear? And what does that do, the more we struggle trying to forget what we're waiting for, we get more anxious, because you see, fear is not logical. You cannot reason fear away. But there is a way to completely get rid of that fear.

1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love. but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. You see, there is no torment in God's love." So how do we do that? We cast out fear by allowing His love, His Word, His truth, into our thoughts. And as we speak that word, and as I have often said, on this channel, to pray the answer instead of the problem. And how we do that is we're praying the Scriptures, God has given us specifically for this problem that we are going through for our anxiety and our fears, and thanking God, rather than asking him to remove the fear, but thanking him that his word has made a provision for us not to fear.

And so we stopped focusing on the problem. And we forget about the telephone call, and when it's going to come in and what the results would be. And we begin to praise and thank God, that His word is yes and amen. That he has promised me total and complete healing, that he has promised me salvation of my family, that he has promised me health and prosperity, because God's word is yes, and amen and God cannot lie.

And we can get excited, instead of being in a negative anticipation we are in and a positive expectation of the good word that we are going to receive because of God's Word. And then the circumstances and everything else surrounding it don't matter, because we are dwelling on what God has promised. And we know that whatever the circumstances may be today, tomorrow or in the weeks to come, that does not factor in God's word is solid.
