Mount Sinai's Dr. Eric Genden addresses issues relatiing to genes and thyroid cancer, now and in the future. Dr. Genden is Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System and Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Immunobiology. As Chief of the Division of Head and Neck Oncology, Dr. Genden is board certified in head and neck surgery and fellowship trained in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction. His practice is centered on thyroid, parathyroid surgery, head and neck cancer surgery, and airway reconstruction. Dr. Genden is internationally recognized as a leader in head and neck cancer surgery, particularly as it relates to HPV, and head and neck microvascular reconstruction.

Dr. Tjoa received his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. He completed an internship in general surgery followed by a residency in head and neck surgery at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Following residency, he completed a clinical fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and Massachusetts General Hospital in the Department of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School, where he served as Clinical Instructor.

Dr. Tjoa is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Irvine Health, and specializes in the surgical treatment of head and neck cancer, major reconstructive surgery, microvascular techniques, thyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, and skull base surgery. He has a vested interested in patient and peer education and has received numerous clinical and teaching awards throughout his career. He was recently named to the Southern California Rising Stars list, as nominated by other physicians. While approximately 5 percent of the physicians within Southern California are named to Super Doctors, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
