Colon polypectomy is a surgical procedure that removes polyps that have grown in the large intestine.
The colon is another name for the large intestine.
The colon is the final part of our digestive system, beginning with the cecum and ending with the rectum.
When food reaches the colon, most of the nutrients and minerals have already been absorbed from it. Hence in the colon, mostly water absorption occurs.
And the remaining food is stored as a waste product in the rectum.
This waste is then defecated from the body.
The lining of the colon is made up of epithelial cells.
And, sometimes, these cells begin to grow abnormally due to a mutation or some other factor.
Which appears as an outgrowth in the colon called polyps.
When hard fecal material comes into contact with these outgrowths, they grow larger and larger.
The patient exhibits signs of stomach pain caused by polyps.
Furthermore, when polyps rupture, bloody stools appear as a result of bleeding.
Moreover, some polyps develop into colon cancer. Hence they must be treated.
The majority of colonic polyps are treated surgically, which is called colon polypectomy.
In this procedure, a flexible tube is inserted into the colon via an anus.
At the end of the tube, a light camera and snap wire are attached. With the help of a camera, polyps are caught using a wire snap. Then an electric current is used to cut the polyps while preventing bleed.
But When polyps become too large, they are removed by making a cut in the abdomen.
