Parotid tumors are the most well-known sort of salivary organ tumors. The parotid organs are found just before the ears on each side of the face, are the biggest of the three sets of major salivary organs. They are responsible for producing saliva to aid in chewing and digesting food.

Keith Taggart was diagnosed with salivary gland tumors in 2017 and after the initial diagnosis, cancer spread to his kidney, liver, and lungs. None of the standards of care (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy) were working for him and he was given 3 to 4 weeks to live. His physician recommended genomic testing, which allowed his doctor to determine the best course of treatment for his unique disease by better understanding the changes in his tumor’s DNA that caused it to grow and spread.
