Tatiana Baker of Boynton Beach, Florida was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer in the summer of 2014. After running out of treatment options in just a few months, she traveled to MedStar Georgetown where she enrolled in the IMmotion 150 study, a phase II clinical trial of the immunotherapy atezolizumab through Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The kidneys are the two bean-shaped organs. Each one of them is about the size of a fist. They are located just below the rib cage, one on each side of the spine. Our kidneys are responsible for filtering the blood from waste products, drugs and toxins and forming the urine. Healthy kidneys filter about a half cup of blood every minute removing waste and extra water.
