Gautam Mankaney, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who specializes in treating individuals with a personal or family history of a hereditary cancer syndrome such as lynch syndrome and juvenile polyposis, or those at high risk for developing gastrointestinal cancer. He also specializes in fecal microbiota transplantation and endoscopy. Dr. Mankaney treats patients at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and Lynnwood.

So after struggling with restoring the audio to the new edition of this video, I gave up and decided to revert to the previous version of the lecture. A 57-year-old man was referred for follow up digestive endoscopy for esophageal varices.The endoscope revealed multiple small sessile gastric polyps in the body and the pyloric region.
Types of gastric polyps:
#Fundic Gland Polyps
1- sporadic polyps,
2-polyps associated with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use,
and3- syndromic polyps (i.e., familial adenomatous polyposis [FAP] syndrome).
#Hyperplastic Polyps
#Adenomatous Polyps
#Gastric Neuroendocrine Tumors
#Ectopic Pancreas
#Pyloric Gland Adenomas
#Hamartomatous Polyps(Peutz-Jeghers Polyps and Syndrome, Juvenile Polyps and Juvenile Polyposis Syndrome, Cowden Syndrome)

#Inflammatory Fibroid Polyps
#Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors(Leiomyomas, Granular Cell Tumors)

Dr. Brian Lawenda discusses when you should start getting screened for colorectal cancer and a discussion of the non-invasive (FOBT, FIT, stool DNA/Cologuard, CT colonography/virtual colonoscopy) and invasive (colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy) screening options.

**Not mentioned in the video are the contraindications for the non-invasive screening options:
--Anyone with a history of colorectal cancer, adenomas, or other related cancers
--Anyone who has had a positive result from another colorectal cancer screening method within the last 6 months
--Anyone who has been diagnosed with a condition that is associated with high risk for colorectal cancer. These include but are not limited to:
+Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
+Chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC)
+Crohn’s disease
+Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)
+Family history of colorectal cancer
+Patients who have been diagnosed with a relevant familial (hereditary) cancer syndrome, such as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer syndrome (HNPCC) or Lynch syndrome, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, MYH-associated polyposis (MAP), Gardner’s syndrome, Turcot’s (or Crail’s) syndrome, Cowden’s syndrome, juvenile polyposis, Cronkhite-Canada syndrome, neurofibromatosis, or familial hyperplastic polyposis.
