Debra Teresi underwent genetic testing after her pulmonologist Daniel Dilling, MD suspected her cystic lung disease was caused by Birt-Hogg-Dubé Syndrome, a genetic condition that predisposes patients to lung problems and kidney cancer. Because Debra's diagnosis meant there was a 50% chance her daughter Kristy Stolarz had BHD, Kristy underwent tests that discovered not only the presence of Birt-Hogg-Dubé, but also a large kidney tumor.
