Ananda knew something wasn't right when noticed blood in her stool after the birth of her son in 2014. Even though her symptoms got worse, doctors dismissed her concerns as hemorrhoids for years. It wasn't until 6 years later, she was able to get a colonoscopy, which revealed a large rectal tumor. She was then diagnosed with stage 3B rectal cancer at 44.
In this cancer vlog, she opens up about the importance of listening to your body and advocating for yourself even when doctors minimize your symptoms.

As a nurse practitioner, Andrea knew she had cancer. She had symptoms like blood in her stool and lower back pain. She just had a baby though, so doctors kept dismissing her symptoms as post-pregnancy problems.
Andrea finally found a doctor who was willing to schedule her in for a colonoscopy right away, and that’s when they found a large mass in her sigmoid colon. She was diagnosed with Stage 3b colorectal cancer where she would do chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to remove the tumor.
In this cancer vlog, Andrea takes us through the anxiety that comes with cancer, how a temporary ileostomy bag works, and how important it is to self advocate.
