I’m Jonathan Rosenfeld and I’m a drug recall lawyer that is currently involved with litigation involving Zantac and the development of cancer in the stomach and bladder.

Zantac is one of the more common over-the-counter and prescription medications used to treat heartburn, stomach ulcers and acid reflux. The real issue with Zantac cancer lawsuits involves a chemical known as NDMA. While the medical community continues to explore how NDMA made its way into Zantac, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests NDMA was created during a chemical reaction in the manufacturing process. Scientists are also exploring the real impact of NDMA on health and what amounts and levels of exposure to NDMA may cause cancer.

What we do know is that NDMA at elevated levels is a known carcinogen. As a result of these discoveries, the FDA sent a voluntary recall noticed to manufacturers of Zantac as well as the generic equivalent in November 2019. Many drug store chains such as Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, Target, and Kroger have also pulled Zantac from their shelves.

The truth is that we just don’t know what is a safe level of NDMA --- if any. In terms of cancers related to Zantac use, we are currently reviewing cases involving: stomach cancer, bladder cancer, esophagus cancer, and colon cancer. We are also looking at Zantac cases involving prostate cancer, leukemia and pancreatic cancer. We are still very much in the early phases of this litigation. However, there have been multiple lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of Zantac in state courts across the U.S.

There is also a pending motion to have the cases centralized before a federal judge in New Jersey to have them concentrated into a Multi-District Litigation format.

I understand that if you’ve taken Zantac for some time or have developed cancer that we discussed, you are likely concerned about your health and your legal options. While there is still a factor of the unknown at this point, I would encourage you to talk with a lawyer about your options. We are reviewing Zantac cancer cases from across the U.S. and have a team of nurses and physicians who are here to assist you with your case. There is much more to this story and we look forward to sharing it with you as we learn more.
