What Veterans & Caregivers Need to Know about Cancer Prevention & Screening
Cancer, much like caregiving, has touched nearly every family across our nation. For military families specifically, there are approximately 50,000 new reported cancer cases in veterans annually. Unfortunately, as this population rapidly increases and experiences aging, this number will continue to rise. That’s why President Biden has reignited the Cancer Moonshot program calling for society to step up to develop and test new treatments, share data and knowledge, and collaborate on tools that can benefit all Americans. If we work together, we can cut the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years, and improve the experience of individuals living with cancer, survivors, and their families.
It’s no secret - the earlier a cancer is diagnosed, the better chance of a positive outcome. Screenings can detect cancer before individuals notice symptoms, ultimately improving the chance treatment will be successful. That’s why VA recommends scheduling routine screenings without delay.
