Whenever an individual is diagnosed with breast cancer, we stage the breast cancer patients. First of all to stage breast cancer patients also depends upon how big is the tumor and whether I want to do an expensive procedure like PET scan or not, yes PET scan is a little expensive. It can cost anywhere between 20,000 to 30,000 rupees. Apart from that any routine biopsy may cost you around 150000 to 20000 rupees. When you come to the treatment cost. The cost of the surgery can vary from one and a half lakh rupees to three lakh rupees depending on the room that you take. But the cost of the chemotherapy can also very with the drugs that you use and it can totally cost upto 4 lakhs just for the chemotherapy drugs but if you are using herceptin, that is if patient is HAR positive then we give what is called as herceptin. So the cost can go upto another 12 lakh rupees again. Thirdly the cost of radiotherapy, the cost can go upto 3 lakhs. So the issue here is how we divide the cost, what happens is when any individual gets breast cancer, they maybe covered only 5 lakh rupees. So if you take general ward and get operated, your surgery may cost less than a lakh. And if you do not require herceptin then your chemotherapy may cost 2 to 3 lakh and radiotherapy, it depends on where you are using IMRT or tomotherpay based or that the radiotherapy cost can also be spilt between 2 to 3 lakh rupees so overall minimum cost of breast cancer can go upto 5 lakh and maximum it can go upto 15 lakhs.
