WeSci is proud to present Dr. Jessie Brownโs first campaign video on studying the origins of childhood leukemia (pediatric AMLs). Please like and share this impactful study to advance scientific knowledge in this important and underfunded field of research! What are AMLs? Acute myeloid leukemias (AML) are aggressive hematological tumors that require intensive treatment. AML accounts for 15% of childhood acute leukemia cases and represents a major and growing clinical problem due to limited therapeutic options, unsatisfactory cure rates and growing incidence.
How will this project help? Pediatric AMLs exhibit a distinct landscape of genetic mutations in comparison with adult AML so studies at the level of the individual cell will lead to a better understanding of the genetic combinations associated with therapy failure and disease progression to relapse. This project will leverage cutting edge technologies to interrogate the origins of childhood leukemia at the level of the individual cell. See this projectโs methods by clicking the link in our bio.
How will my contribution help? By contributing to this project you will not only directly help the Ferrando lab purchase all necessary supplies, reagents and services to carry out their experiments for this study, but also create a greater impact on funding research in childrenโs health which is one of the least funded categories by the National Health Institute.
